What are the Sensogenoma Experimental Concerts?

The Sensogenoma Experimental Concerts are a pioneering initiative that brings together music and science to investigate how musical experiences influence the human body, particularly brain health. Rather than simply attending a concert, audience members voluntarily take part in a scientific study designed to analyse the biological, physiological and emotional responses elicited by music.

Each concert follows a carefully designed experimental protocol in which biological samples are collected before, during and after the performance—including saliva, capillary blood and tears—together with a range of physiological and emotional measures. These data enable researchers to investigate how different musical stimuli may influence biological processes related to gene expression, stress, emotions and overall well-being.

Performed by the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, together with the Municipal Band of Santiago de Compostela in the most recent editions, the concerts are specifically designed for research purposes. Their programmes are carefully curated to evoke distinct emotional responses and to generate scientific evidence on the therapeutic potential of music.

Sensogenoma transforms the concert hall into a living laboratory where art, science and society come together to advance our understanding of the relationship between music and health.
